RESIDENTS in Pemba have bemoaned the erratic power supply that has hit the district over the last three months. Speaking on behalf of the residents, White Chisi complained that the power supply situation in the district was worse than what was expected under the current load shedding schedule. He disclosed that the district is subjected to as little as three hours of power supply on certain days.
"The power problem that we are experiencing has greatly affected our developmental efforts as a district. We have approached Zesco to find a solution to this problem, but they keep referring us to the head office in Lusaka. We have written to relevant authorities and we hope to get feedback soon," he said.
Chisi, who is also Kasiya Business and Secretarial College principal, said the power surges had also impacted negatively on the delivery of education services at the institution.
And one of the students at the institution, Caroline Zimba complained that students were unable to study, as the institution did not even have a standby power generator.
"The biggest challenge we are facing as students is the inadequate power supply. Our computer lessons are disrupted frequently, and we can't study in the night as the institution does not have a power generator," said Zimba.
