(HERALD) Tsvangirai not key to Zim resolution

Tsvangirai not key to Zim resolution

EDITOR — I have come across a number of people claiming Morgan Tsvangirai’s signature is the key to the resolution of our socio-economic challenges facing the nation. Because of this, they say, Tsvangirai has the power to make or break Zimbabwe; hence he should be given the executive powers he wants to govern. I feel compelled to contribute to that debate on a national platform like The Herald.

You see, Tsvangirai does not have the power to make or break Zimbabwe as his supporters claim. What he presented and still presents to the West today is an excuse to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe.

The Westerners claim they imposed the sanctions on behalf of "oppressed’’ Zimbabweans, yet we all know they were doing it in a bid to protect their ill-gotten colonial gains.

As such, Tsvangirai’s signature is only needed to remove the pretext for the sanctions, to allow us to develop our country without hindrance.

Tsvangirai does not have the power. It is we Zimbabweans who have, and if he remains intransigent we must show him that he is irrelevant.
