MMD cadres on Monday allegedly beat up a PF cadre at Katete Stores before Vice-President Rupiah Banda’s rally in the district. And police in Chipata are holding a 36-year-old woman reported to have died in 1996 and reappeared last Sunday. The MMD cadres allegedly beat up a Patriotic Front supporter who had stuck PF leader Michael Sata’s campaign poster on his shirt. This happened when the PF supporter attempted to pass where the MMD cadres had gathered.

The MMD cadres chased the PF supporter and beat him up before removing the campaign poster from his shirt. The incident attracted a lot of people who were shouting and laughing during the act.

Meanwhile, Eastern Province police commanding officer Mary Chikwanda said police received a report from Jessy Banda of Nabvutika compound that her daughter Mafunase Banda had reappeared.

Chikwanda said Mafunase is believed to have died at Chipata General Hospital in 1996 and was buried at St Anne’s Cemetery.

She said the villagers living along the border with Malawi in Mwasemphangwe area received a report that a Zambian was found in Malawi.

Chikwanda said a village headman in Mwasemphangwe sent villagers to Malawi to pick up the woman.

Police at Chipata Central police station had a tough time controlling people that wanted to have a glimpse of the woman who is believed to have risen from the dead.
