UPND will stand against Rupiah’s attempts to ‘rape’ the election, declares HH

UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has declared that the party will fearlessly stand against all sorts of Rupiah’s attempts to ‘rape’ the October 30 presidential election. And Hichilema said it is unacceptable for the MMD government to reduce Zambians to perpetual beggars.

Addressing a big rally at Manyinga ground in Kabompo, Hichilema told the residents that they had suffered enough and time for relief was near.

Hichilema said MMD candidate Rupiah Banda was aware that he would lose this election as evidenced by his threatening remarks against opposition contenders. He charged that Vice-President Banda was firing an empty gun.

"We shall stand strong and fearless and ensure the people of Zambia choose a president of their choice. We won't allow anybody to rape this election. Threatening us is threatening the 12 million Zambians because people want change. Rupiah does not own Zambia. I can tell you that the political demise of MMD has come," Hichilema said.

Hichilema urged the people of Kabompo, who flocked in large numbers to the rally, to vote against poverty, unemployment, hunger and lack of development by removing MMD out of power next week.

"Vote for better and free education, better and free healthcare, more jobs, and end to poverty by voting for me and the UPND," he said.

Hichilema said despite the district having abundant waters on the Kabompo River, residents had no access to clean water.

He said once elected into office, he would ensure that a bridge was put at Watopa River in order to link Kabompo with Lukulu and Mumbwa districts.

"I want to make Zambia a country worth living in. We are not ticking as a country now because MMD has lost direction and focus. Therefore, only UPND has a vision to take Zambia to higher heights and better the lives of our people," he said.

Earlier, Hichilema paid a courtesy call on senior chief Sikufele, where he assured the traditional leader of development once elected as Republican president.

He said he would ensure that all traditional cultures and ceremonies were respected and upheld.

In Chavuma, where he was also well received, Hichilema promised the residents that once elected, he would engage two contractors to complete the Mutanda-Chavuma road.

He said it was shameful on the part of the MMD that the Mutanda-Chavuma road had not been completed for 17 years.

"I promise you that if you elect me on the 30th October, I will put two contractors, one will start from Mutanda while the other from Chavuma so that the road is completed on time. This is an important road and requires to be completed without hesitation," Hichilema said.

In Mufumbwe, Hichilema bemoaned the lack of a police station and prison in the area despite the country attaining 44 years of independence tomorrow.

"How can a big area like this one have no police station or prison?" Hichilema asked. "This is a rich district but has been ignored and neglected by MMD government. Don't worry; time for your economic liberation has come. Vote for me and you shall enjoy development like the rest of the country."

He also said he would ensure that clinics and hospitals were well stocked with medicine.

"Right now it is embarrassing because our teachers, doctors, nurses do not have better houses. This will be a thing of the past once UPND forms government," he promised.

Hichilema also held rallies in Zambezi district where he also promised that a bridge would be built on the Zambezi River, among other developmental projects.

Hichilema said currently, the pontoon on the Zambezi River was not reliable but that once elected, he would put up a permanent bridge.
