Rupiah drops 3 aides

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has dropped three former aides to late president Levy Mwanawasa.

President Banda last week fired former State House private secretary Alfred Chipoya, Special Assistant for Project Implementation and Monitoring Jack Kalala and Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations John Musukuma.

When contacted for comment, Chipoya could neither confirm nor deny his dismissal.

Chipoya referred all queries to the Secretary to the Cabinet.

"I am not allowed by nature of my office to talk to the press about anything. Whether it's true or not true, I am not supposed to say anything. The best person who can give you all the details is the Secretary to the Cabinet. You call the Secretary to the Cabinet, he will give you the details," Chipoya said.

When reached for comment, Musukuma hung up the phone the moment the author introduced himself as a Post reporter.

Efforts to contact Kalala proved futile.

Secretary to the Cabinet Dr Joshua Kanganja confirmed that the three former aides to late president Mwanawasa had been relieved of their duties but declined to elaborate further on the matter.

"I am confirming," said Dr Kanganja and immediately cut the line.
