PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda’s admission that the country is facing a lot of problems is a clear indication that he has run out of ideas, National Democratic Focus (NDF) spokesperson Joseph Mujuda stated yesterday.

Mujuda stated that President Banda was supposed to give hope to the suffering masses in Zambia and improve the country’s economy.

"That statement was a clear sign that the President had run out of ideas on how to develop the country and uplift the standards of living of the Zambians,” Mujuda stated.

“The President has therefore admitted that he will not be able to fulfil the election campaigns he promised the Zambian people; the President has completely discounted himself.”

He stated that it was in this vain that demonstrations against high mealie-meal prices were inevitable if the government was not prepared to listen and avert the suffering of the Zambian people.

“His admission of failure is the reason behind the government’s failure to come up with an economic rescue plan for the troubled Zambian economy. Governments world over are busy making plans on how best they can make their economies survive in the wake of financial global crisis,” stated Mujuda.

President Banda a week ago said Zambia was going through difficult times and many people were suffering from anxiety that they may lose jobs.

President Banda said this was a very critical time in the history of Zambia.
