On behalf of the party Zanu PF, the Government, my wife and family and on my personal behalf, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the Prime Minister and president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Mr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, on the untimely death yesterday of his dear and beloved wife Susan, in a traffic accident.
This is a tragedy that has befallen our nation at a moment of great hope and expectation flowing from the formation of the inclusive Government of which Mr Tsvangirai is Prime Minister.
We were all celebrating this major development when the tragedy struck. It is a very sad occurrence indeed. As I condole with the Prime Minister, I am acutely aware that he himself is nursing injuries from the same accident.
The whole nation anxiously prays for his recovery which we all hope will be swift and complete.
My heart goes out to the Prime Minister’s family, especially to the children who now have to face the future without the love and care of so dear a mother. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Robert Gabriel Mugabe
President of the Republic of Zimbabwe
