Zimbabwean police have arrested an editor and a journalist working for an independent newspaper and charged them with publishing articles that could hurt the credibility of law enforcement agencies, their lawyer said. The move is likely to raise concerns among Western governments and donors, who say they will not pour in money to help Zimbabwe's economy recover unless political reforms, such as a free press, are implemented.

Vincent Kahiya, editor of the Zimbabwe Independent and Constantine Chimakure, its news editor, were arrested over an article which named police and security agents allegedly involved in the abduction of rights activists from Prime Minister Morgan Tvangirai's MDC party, said their lawyer Innocent Chagonda.

Previous arrests of MDC activists created tensions between Tsvangirai and his new unity government partner President Robert Mugabe.
