Indeni resumes production

INDENI Oil Refinery has resumed production following the receipt of the feedstock that was delayed for about three weeks. Sources in the Ministry of Energy and Water Development disclosed that the ship carrying the 90,000 metric tonnes of crude docked in Dar-es- Salaam last Friday.
"Indeni has resumed operations. The reformer unit was started around midnight on Saturday, and by last evening [Sunday], diesel was already going to storage. Other products are due to go for storage later today [yesterday]," the source explained.
The sources said the country still held adequate stocks through oil marketing companies (OMCs) even during Indeni's stalled operations, and therefore, there was no expected fuel shortage.
"The talk of a shortage was not real, because even now, OMCs are still getting various products from the terminal," the sources disclosed.

The refinery ran out of feedstock due to delayed delivery of the 90,000 metric tonnes of crude that was supposed to dock in Dar- es-Salaam on June 1, 2009.
The delay was attributed to unfavourable weather patterns.
