Malawi’s 43 member cabinet list as unveiled by President Mutharika Minister of Trade and Industry, Eunice Kazembe on Friday commended local and foreign exhibitors for goods and services offered in the past years during Malawi’s International Trade Fairs.

Kazembe said this in Blantyre when she presented awards to six local and international exhibitors during the opening of this year’s 21st Malawi International Trade Fair in Blantyre.

She described the exhibitors as being capable of displaying goods and offering quality services to the nation.

She said such goods and services were in conformity with her Ministry’s policies on reform programmes like the Public Private Partnership, aimed at finding lasting solutions to problems of marketing Malawi’s products on the international markets.

“Traders should be able to produce quality goods and services, and that’s why these companies and departments deserve the awards,” said Kazembe.

She assured the exhibitors, mainly local ones, that government would explore new markets for Malawian products to complement its agenda of transforming the nation from a predominantly importing nation to a predominantly exporting one.

The Minister said government would continue offering its support to the private sector by making sure there was a dynamic business environment, security for the investors and their property.

The awards were presented basing on the categories of best service provider, best exporter, best exhibitor, best foreign exhibitor, best manufacturer.

Kentam Products Limited was awarded the best manufacturer while Dairy Board Malawi became the best exporter. Mars Exclusive Fashions was the best exhibitor while the Ministry of Tourism and culture doubled as the best exhibitor in the service sector and the best overall exhibitor.

The award for the only best foreign exhibitor went to the People’s Republic of China.

In his comments, Regional Tourism Officer for the South, Salad Nthenda urged Malawians to boost tourism by visiting beautiful places like Lake Malawi and other areas.–Mana
