VILLAGE headmen in Petauke have appealed to the government to help resolve the chieftaincy wrangles because they were retarding development in the district.
Speaking on behalf of over 734 villages, headman Kalapuka, who is the secretary for all the headmen in senior chief Kalindawalo's area, said there was no peace in Petauke because of the chieftaincy wrangles.

He said the headmen in Kalindawalo chiefdom and other chiefdoms like Mumbi and Nyamphande were very happy that the High Court had amicably resolved the Nyamphande chieftaincy wrangle.

"The Nyamphande wrangle which had been settled was not unique to that chiefdom alone but almost all the chiefdoms in Petauke are facing a similar problem. We are very happy that the High Court judgment was very fair and there will be no confusion in Nyamphande area. As headmen, we feel that such fair judgments by the court should continue because that's the only way of bringing about peace in the Nsenga land," he said.

Headman Kalapuka said there had been no peace in Petauke district for a very long time because of the chieftaincy wrangles.

"We want government to get involved and resolve these wrangles in the Nsenga land because they retard development. Surely how can development be fostered when there are such wrangles?" headman Kalapuka asked.

He said the headmen meeting which was held on Saturday June 6, 2009 at Kalindawalo headquarters was attended by 732 headmen.

Headman Kalapuka who was flanked by his vice headman Mawilili also appealed to all the Nsenga's to attend the installation of chief Nyamphande on June 27 this year.
