CIVIL Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has urged the government to implement the budget cycle effectively in a transparent and accountable manner to ensure timely disbursements of allocated funds.

Welcoming governmentĂs pronouncement that the budget cycle would this year be re-aligned to suit the financial year, CSPR information and networking officer Patrick Nshindano yesterday challenged the government to also provide budget information to the implementers and beneficiaries, which would allow them to embrace the budget and give it the support it deserved.

"We commend government on the change of the budget cycle by re-aligning it to the calendar year which will entail that government financial year will be commencing in January of each year. CSPR has been advocating for this and commends government for taking keen notice of the recommendations made by many stakeholders and the Zambian citizens as a whole," said Nshindano. "And we would like to urge government to implement the budget cycle effectively in a transparent and accountable manner to ensure speedy execution of programmes to foster social and economic development."
