PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda yesterday linked The Post to the opposition’s attempts to impeach him, accusing the newspaper of “ubufi bwakunya (lies of shitting)”.

Addressing a rally in Kafinda area on Tuta Road on Sunday afternoon to drum up support for MMD candidate Dr Solomon Musonda, President Banda said a certain newspaper had been writing impeachment stories but it would not succeed.
He said some people had been reading in the newspapers about impeachment.

"This paper is telling you that this President is finished. There is no chance in hell of becoming the government. I am the President," President Banda said.

At this point, the interpreter said it was the newspaper with a blue masthead that had been writing about impeachment and lies.

President Banda then interjected: "In Bemba they say ubufi bwakunya (lies of shitting)."

He said he wanted to continue with late president Levy Mwanawasa's legacy and programmes.

President Banda said fertiliser for this farming season had already arrived in the country.

"The MMD government started the Fertiliser Support Programme (FSP) to assist our farmers. We will continue with that programme," he said.

President Banda said with fertiliser, people were ready for the challenge to grow enough food.

He said he was very proud that people were ready to grow their own food.

"We the people of Zambia are very proud people. We have been independent since 1964 and since then we have stayed together, united as one nation," he said.

President Banda said Zambia was an example of unity.

He said Zambians must be free to move around and settle wherever they wanted to.

President Banda said he was very proud that the country had preserved its independence.

And yesterday, President Banda said Sata is a crazy man.

Addressing a rally at Chitambo Mission ground, President Banda said he would do everything in his power to make sure that Sata did not become President.

"I will do everything in my power to make sure Sata continues to fail to be President of this country," he said.

He said he had received a report from his ministers that Sata had withdrawn the impeachment.

President Banda said he knew that he could not be impeached because there were no grounds.

"I’m superior to them in that Parliament," he said.

President Banda thanked Sata for withdrawing the impeachment and said politics should be realistic and not divisive or about hatred.

"I myself have no hatred for Mr Sata. I just look at him as my cousin who is crazy. Lekani nimutukaneko newo...that's why I say he is crazy, I don't understand him," he said.

President Banda said if something bad happened to him, he expected Sata to be there and to carry his coffin as his cousin.

He said he could also mourn Sata as his cousin.

President Banda said a person like UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema should not join in when he and Sata called each other names.

He warned Sata that he would also win the Kasama Central seat.

"Wapya ni kuuza [beware] Sata I’m going there to get that seat," President Banda said.

And MMD national chairman Michael Mabenga asked the people to be running away whenever they see Sata.

"He can bite you," Mabenga said.

And during another campaign rally in Chitambo last Sunday, Mabenga said Zambia needed a leader who is cool-minded.

Mabenga said although President Banda had not clocked one year, his performance had been marvellous.

"This country needs a leader who is cool minded. This country needs a leader who is tolerant. This country needs a leader who is accommodating. These are the attributes that are embedded in the President of this country President Rupiah Banda," he said.

Mabenga said had it not been for those attributes, Zambia would not be moving at this speed.

He said people had heard a lot of insults and all kinds of words that were insulting but President Banda had never at any time reacted because he knew that he was the father of the nation.

"But we the people may not accept these characters for a long time," he said.

Mabenga said people should accept democracy because it was respect that builds the nation.

"So let's ensure that we emulate what the President does," he said.

Mabenga said President Banda was respectful and those that meet him know that he always smiled and bowed when greeting people.

He said the MMD's national executive committee (NEC) had listened to the people in coming up with President Banda as the candidate for 2011.

"So who are we, indeed, who are we?" he asked. "We have 100 per cent accepted the decision and instructions you have given us."

Mabenga said the MMD had already started campaigning for President Banda for 2011.

MMD Central Province chairman Boyd Mutonka said he was happy that President Banda had shifted State House to Chitambo.

Mutonka was confident that the MMD would retain the Chitambo seat.

Mutonka said if the MMD failed to win the seat, he was prepared for any disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, most of the roads in Serenje have received a face-lift.

A check in Serenje revealed that most roads had been graded.

And President Banda said chiefs who had not received the vehicles would do so by next week.
