FORMER president Frederick Chiluba yesterday remained mute on remarks by late president Levy Mwanawasa's eldest son Patrick that he Chiluba is a spent force in active politics and his contribution to the MMD is destructive rather than constructive.

When this reporter approached him and asked for his comment on Patrick's remarks, shortly after his return from Johanesburg in South Africa where he had gone for medical review, Chiluba said, “No! No!” while stretching his hand signaling his refusal to comment on the issue.

Earlier, Chiluba's spokesperson Emmanuel Mwamba apologised to the journalists that the former president would not talk to them.

Concurring with Mwamba's announcement, Chiluba said: “I will just wave at thing.”

A horde of pastors, bishops, reverends, some ordinary Zambians and a choir, were at the airport to welcome Chiluba.

Chiluba is expected to go back to South Africa in December.
Later, when approached, Mwamba declined to comment on Patrick's statement against Chiluba.

“No! We can't comment on Patrick,” said Mwamba. “Even you guys how could you even give him a lead story?”

On Saturday, Patrick said Chiluba was not adding value to the MMD.
