2008 audit report ready next week – Chifungula

AUDITOR General Anna Chifungula yesterday said the 2008 “big” audit report of various government ministries and departments will be ready next week. In an interview yesterday, Chifungula said she was just waiting for the authorities to clear the 2008 audit report before it could be given to the public.

“It’s quite a big report. Let us wait for the report; it will come out. I am sure by next week we should have the report out and then you can see the picture yourself,” Chifungula said. “I can’t disclose the report before the owners. Anytime now, as soon as the authorities clear it.”

She said her auditors would soon start working on the 2009 audit report.

“For 2009, since they have just closed the accounts as you know and our officers are just starting the auditing process, so we can’t see the picture how it is until everything has been finalised and the Ministry of Finance has closed its accounts and there is a cut off,” said Chifungula.

In the past, Chifungula’s reports have exposed huge abuse of public funds by ministers, permanent secretaries and other public workers.
