ELECTORAL Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson justice Florence Mumba has said there is no guarantee that the 2011 election results will be transmitted electronically.

In an interview yesterday, justice Mumba who early in March this year indicated that the Commission could possibly transmit results electronically said there were various issues to be attended to before the equipment could be used.

She said ECZ was currently concentrating on the continuous voters registration to ensure the exercise succeeded.

“The system electronic transmission is still being reviewed. We are moving slowly on that one because we’ve concentrated on the continuous voter registration exercise.

Yes, we had earlier on indicated that we would meet stakeholders to find out if they would like the idea, but for now we are busy with the voter registration exercise. We want to see how our machine will perform on this exercise.

If they do well then we will come to electronic transmission of results,” explained justice Mumba. “So, for now we cannot guarantee that we shall transmit the 2011 results electronically. Otherwise we will just continue with the manual transmission like we did in 2006 and 2008.”
