KAPUTA district council acting secretary Edward Kabwe has said Kaputa is still prone to attacks by the Congolese despite the presence of Zambia National Service and Zambia Army officials.

In an interview, Kabwe asked mobile service providers to extend their services to Kapinda area so as to enhance security through communication. Kabwe said the Congolese had continued attacking Zambians in Kapinda area.

He said 84 people who were fishing on Lake Tanganyika were captured two weeks ago and taken to Mulilo in Congo but had now been released.

“They stayed there for four days and were only released after the Zambian government negotiated with the Congolese government,” he said.

Kabwe said the presence of the ZNS and Zambia Army officers was not enough.

“We are appealing to mobile service providers to extend their services to Kapinda area because the people there can be attacked and it can take long for others to know because of lack of phones,” said Kabwe.
