PF General Secretary Winter Kabimba yesterday said Matthew Mulanda and other people rejoining MMD are economic mercenaries who have wrongly assumed that maligning the PF leadership will get themselves jobs in President Rupiah Banda’s government.

And Mulanda, who was PF central committee member, yesterday resigned to rejoin the MMD and claimed that PF was created for Michael Sata to get into State House and not serving the Zambian people. But Kabimba said Mulanda’s contribution to PF was zero.

“Mulanda did nothing to make the party grow on the Copperbelt when he was provincial chairman. And Mulanda, like many others who served in MMD government, are playing games of politics of poverty because they can’t make ends meet and these economic mercenaries have wrongly assumed that maligning Sata and the PF will get them jobs,” Kabimba said.

“But they will not get any jobs despite being praise-singers for MMD because Rupiah Banda is on his way out. So how can he take care of economic mercenaries like Mulanda since his (RB) is not certain.”

Kabimba advised Zambians to look out for economic mercenaries like Mulanda who could do anything even against their principles so long it would feed their mouths.

“If PF tomorrow forms government, people like Mulanda will be the first one to come back and start praising Sata. But Mulanda did nothing even when he was a minister and people should look out for such characters,” said Kabimba.

During a briefing yesterday attended by MMD provincial chairman Joseph Chilambwe and district chairman Cephas Katongo, Mulanda said the PF/upnd pact since its inception had never been strong and that it was formed for Sata to go to State House.

“The pact was never about UPND and PF. It was just PF and it was a way of putting Sata in State House and I urge all the opposition to vote for MMD and President Banda because he is running the country so well,” Mulanda said.

“I also want to say that there is no PF on the Copperbelt but President Banda is working hard and I can see the development that is happening such as new schools, hospital and roads.”

Mulanda, who once served as Copperbelt minister and Chifubu member of parliament, said MMD was the only party to take the country forward.

“I was in MMD from 1993 until I voluntarily resigned and handed over power to Katongo. When I went to PF, I found a different culture and I failed to fit in. I am looking forward to next year’s elections so that we can win. I have come back home so that I can contribute to the MMD party,” said Mulanda.
