THE wind of change has not spared Northern Province, Evaristo Kasunga has observed.
Announcing his decision to join the Patriotic Front in an interview on Friday, Kasunga, who is former Football Association of Zambia president and aspiring to contest as member of parliament for the PF in Mbala Central in next year’s general elections, said there was a complete wind of change in Zambia because the ruling MMD had overstayed its usefulness.

“The wind of change has not spared Northern Province. Northern Province has changed completely. It is now a PF strong area and we should just wait for 2011. What we got in Mpulungu is not a reflection of the real change on the ground,” he said.

Asked when he joined the PF, Kasunga said he did so a long time ago, only that the system in the PF was that members could not be identified by cards.

“So you can be a silent follower until you erupt like a volcano. Now this time I have erupted. Under FAZ, I can’t say exactly what I was, but I was a sympathiser,” he said.

Kasunga said the PF was the only political party which offered hope to Zambians.
“You can’t ask the obvious, if there is a shift from MMD then it’s the recipient. The party which has received those who have shifted is PF much more than UPND,” he said.

Kasunga said PF was the most influential party in the country because it controlled powerful provinces such as Lusaka and the Copperbelt.

“Those you know are the biggest population areas of votes and now the wind of change has captured the entire Northern Province. Not only Northern Province,” he said.

Kasunga said the MMD had failed and now was the time to hand over power to the PF.
On his chances of getting adopted and subsequently winning the Mbala Central seat in 2011, Kasunga said he was very positive that he would be adopted and win the seat.

Kasunga said the current MMD parliamentarian Gaston Sichilima had de-campaigned himself because he had failed to deliver on his promises to the people.
