Plan launches 2011-15 strategy for Zambia

CHILDREN don’t have enough choices over their own lives in terms of education opportunities and healthcare, says Plan country director Tim Budge. During the launch of the Plan International Zambia 2011 to 2015 strategic plan in Chadiza on Tuesday, Budge said his organisation would continue with programmes that were aimed at creating a favourable future for Zambian children.

He said it was one of Plan International’s goals to ensure that Zambian families, communities and children make their own meaningful choices over their own lives.

“We believe this goal is important because and I think you will agree with me too many children, too many families don’t have enough choices over their own lives in terms of education opportunities and healthcare,” Budge said.

He said Plan International believed in human rights as a means of achieving development for children.

Chadiza district commissioner Peter Nyirenda said Plan International had built and equipped seven basic schools and over 100 early childhood care and development centres in the area of education.

Nyirenda said in the area of health, Plan had constructed three clinics and had been supplying the essential drugs and utilities in the health centres found in the 11 communities where the organisation was working.

He said in partnership with government, Plan International Zambia aimed to improve the lives of Zambians, using strategies that were accessible, affordable and sustainable.

The launch of the Strategic Plan was also attended by chief Zingalume of Chadiza.
