Rupiah’s era has eroded corruption fight – Milupi

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda’s era has been a major let down as he has completely eroded the fight against corruption, says Charles Milupi. And Milupi says he last week visited 30-year-old Barotse shooting victim Davison Siyoto and cried at the state of his health.

“They brutalised the people of Western Province and killed two youths. I visited Davidson Siyoto who was in ward E21 on bed 29; the state of his health made me cry,” said Milupi.

Siyoto’s knee cap was shattered as a result of police shootings during the January 14, 2011 Barotseland Agreement confusion in Mongu and he has had his right light leg amputated.

In an interview, Milupi who is Alliance for Development and Democracy president, said the assurance that the MMD was going out is outright.

“President Banda’s era has been a major let down, he has completely eroded the fight against corruption by embracing corrupt people, they MMD are going out outright,” he said.

Milupi said the regime of President Banda has annoyed a lot of Zambians by refusing to listen to the call on the re-introduction of the windfall tax.

He said the Zamtel privatisation, removal of the abuse of office clause from the Anti Corruption Commission Act and the NAPSA land saga were some of the major issues that had annoyed Zambians.

When asked if he was ready to form a pact or coalition with other opposition political parties, Milupi said he was ready to do anything as long as it suited the aspirations for change by the Zambian people.

“…We are ready to work with any party. People are very keen for change and we need the right change in government,” he said.

Milupi said Zambians needed real change and any pact or coalition should look at pertinent issues so that solutions for the benefit of Zambians were found.
