FORMER MDC-T organising secretary Elias Mudzuri, who lost a powerful post of National Organising Secretary says he will drop a bombshell on his future political aspirations, as he is contemplating parting ways with the west-sponsored MDC-T party. He lost his post to Nelson Chamisa, the former secretary for information and publicity.

Engineer Mudzuri emerged out of the just-ended MDC-T Congress a bitter man with the overall results also reported to have further fueled factionalism which is threatening to fragment the party.

The just-ended MDC-T National Congress held in Bulawayo is reported to have widened crack lines in the party setting the stage for its break up into two, if not more, factions.

Engineer Mudzuri could not be drawn to confirm the development but said his next political move remains in his hands.

But sources say Mudzuri has already indicated his ambitions to fight his own war against MDC-T party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.

In a related development, some sources within the MDC-T party revealed that donors and other western sponsors have teamed up with Biti and Chamisa in a long term plot to replace Tsvangirai at the helm at the party.

The plan, according to sources, has already seen Nelson Chamisa positioning himself to the powerful post of organising secretary, one closer to taking over from Biti as Secretary-General.

Under this new plan to oust Tsvangirai, the party’s current Secretary General, Tendai Biti, is reported to have become the favoured candidate to take over from Tsvangirai, with Chamisa, whom he is allegedly working with, expected to succeed Biti at the party’s next Congress.

The Tsvangirai-led party is reported to be seriously haunted by the aftermath of the recent congress that was marred by factionalism, chaos, violence and serious divisions along tribal lines.

Engineer Mudzuri, who for many years had been seen as a threat to Tsvangirai, fell to his lowest after losing to Chamisa at the Bulawayo congress, this coming after he was fired from his Cabinet post as Minister of Energy and Power Development in a mini-reshuffle by Tsvangirai last year.

The ascendancy of the Biti and Chamisa alliance against Tsvangirai is being illustrated by the fact that Chamisa easily beat Mudzuri, while Biti is said to be now in control of most grassroots structures in the party through his loyalists.

The Makones also fought tooth and nail, with wife Theresa retaining her Women’s Assembly chair post.

The family, which is a significant financial player in the party, is reported to have fallen out with Tsvangirai and want him out.
