BISHOP Paul Mususu says former senior public servant James Mapoma's advice that the current crop of ministers should avoid living luxurious lives at the expense of the majority poor is timely.

Commenting on Kenneth Kaunda's former special assistant for economic affairs Mapoma's call on ministers to ensure that the PF government makes a difference in the lives of the majority poor, Bishop Mususu, a former Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia executive director, described abuse of public resources as ugly.

"Yes, I agree with Mr Mapoma," he said in an interview yesterday. "This counsel to the new ministers is timely because it is coming within 100 days of PF being in office."

Bishop Mususu said those serving in the public service should check their conduct to avoid a situation where every former leader had to be probed over what they did while in office.

He said Zambians did not want a repeat of the naked abuse of public resources that characterised the previous MMD regime.

Bishop Mususu said the fact that some of the former ministers were being probed over public resources in the wake of the MMD's electoral defeat shows that there were weaknesses that needed to be tackled in the legal system.
