DEC warn, caution BY over bounced cheques

The Drug Enforcement Commission yesterday warned and cautioned Benjamin Mwila for issuing undisclosed number of cheques on an insufficiently funded account contrary to the national payment systems Act No.1 of 2007.

The interrogation that ended up with officers recording a warn and caution statement lasted over four hours at DEC offices in Lusaka. Mwila, commonly known as BY, was accompanied to the DEC offices by his wife, and sons Abram and Benjamin.

Mwila however snubbed journalists who had been waiting to speak with him outside the DEC premises.

DEC spokesperson Samuel Silomba confirmed Mwila's appearance at the Commission but said that he would give details on the matter later in the day.

Tokyo Vehicles Limited had reported Mwila to the DEC for allegedly obtaining two vehicles by false pretences, through his firm Wade Adams Piling, Foundation and Road Constructions.

It is alleged that Mwila acquired the two vehicles worth K100 million from Tokyo Vehicles Limited and has to date only managed to pay K22 million.
