Leader of the Anglican Church in Zimbabwe Archbishop Nolbert Kunonga has hailed the country’s indigenisation drive as a “divine act of God” aimed at emancipating the general populace.

Addressing more than 20 000 parishioners at the church’s annual Bernard Mizeki commemorations in Marondera yesterday, Archbishop Kunonga said indigenisation was capable of transforming the lives of the marginalised.

“The land reform and the indigenisation programmes are not election gimmicks but matters of life, which seek to liberate the previously downtrodden Africans,” he said, adding that his church will continue to support President Mugabe’s call to empower indigenous Zimbabweans.

“Just look at what is happening in South Africa at the moment. Youths have realised they are heirs to the land and will not accept piece-meal deals.

“You have to sweat for riches; biblically, it is a sin not to work.”

Regarding homosexuality, Archbishop Kunonga maintained that same-sex unions were ungodly.

He said more people were flocking to the church after realising this truth.
