Adapt or die: Sexwale tells ANC brass it's time for change

Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale has called on ANC leaders to change or face removal, while remaining coy about his own political ambitions. “Young people say: ‘If you don’t change, we will ask for your removal at the next conference. And the conferences are always in December, just like Mangaung,” Sexwale said in Alexandra in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The Times newspaper quoted him as saying: “At these conferences, we change leaders, not because we want to change leaders but because the struggle is about moving forward.”

Sexwale, who was delivering a lecture on the life of former ANC president Alfred Xuma, sought to play down rumours that he would challenge President Jacob Zuma at the ANC’s elective conference in Mangaung in the Free State in December.

“Now, sometimes people always say: ‘The way he is talking, he is talking about Mangaung.’ I am not standing, I am not running for anything but I am also not running away from anything,” said Sexwale.
