THE government joint investigative team has questioned Zambia's former high commissioner to Nigeria, Alexis Luhila, in connection with an oil deal hatched by MMD under Rupiah Banda.
Joint probe team public relations officer Namukolo Kasumpa told The Post in response to a press query yesterday that Luhila appeared before the investigative wings last Friday afternoon.
This followed recent revelations by energy permanent secretary George Zulu that officials in the MMD administration paid huge sums of money for six shipments of oil worth 90,000 metric tonnes but the commodity was never supplied to the country, while a Nigerian national was claiming US$5 million as commission.
According to MMD sources, former president Banda initiated the fake Nigerian oil deal and operated it through a company, SARB, who had registered specifically for this purpose.
