PRESIDENT Michael Sata has suspended permanent secretary in charge of administration at Cabinet Office Anna Mwewa Mwitwa for alleged misappropriation of government funds. But Mwitwa in an interview said the claim that she embezzled any funds was false.

Sources have told The Post that President Sata suspended Mwitwa last week for allegedly mismanaging finances meant for government assignments.

The source said Mwitwa had since been served with the letter of suspension and that the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) was investigating her.

"You can call her and she should be able to confirm that she is on suspension. She was served with a letter last week. In fact, the Anti Corruption Commission is currently investigating the alleged misappropriation," said the source.

And when contacted, Mwitwa could neither deny nor confirm the suspension but refuted claims that she had misappropriated government funds.

"I can't comment on that one. Where is that coming from?" she enquired.

When told that sources within government had told The Post, Mwitwa asked the reporter to get the facts correct.

"No. I think that's not the position. I think the people who told you must give you facts that are correct," she said.

When pressed to state whether she was still working at Cabinet Office or not, Mwitwa said: "I just said I can't comment on that one because those are not the facts at hand, so the person who is giving you those details must avail you with those facts because that's not what I can comment on."

ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono said he could not confirm if Mwitwa was being probed but requested for a written press query.
