THE First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe, yesterday toured several stands at the 48th Zimbabwe International Trade Fair. She was accompanied by the Governor of Matabeleland North Province, Cde Sithokozile Mathuthu, the Minister of Small to Medium Enterprises Development, Cde Sithembiso Nyoni, senior Government officials as well as officials from the Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority.

The First Lady was also accompanied by her daughter Bona, and sons Robert Junior and Chatunga. During the tour, Amai Mugabe was briefed about production units of commodities being exhibited and commodity development strategies. She visited stands for parastatals, private companies and emerging business units.

At the Industrial Development Corporation stand, Amai Mugabe got an insight into the day to day activities of the corporation and its business units. The general manager, Mr Mike Ndudzo told Amai Mugabe that the corporation was implementing expansionary plans.

"The IDC continues to implement several strategies for the development of the economy, as a parastatal we are pleased to continue serving the interest of the nation," said Mr Ndudzo.

The First Lady also toured the Zimoco Industries stand where she expressed satisfaction on latest car models. "Some of these latest cars are really quite impressive," she told the company’s management.

Amai Mugabe visited exhibition stands in Hall 1, which is mainly for the emerging entrepreneurs.

During the tour of the stands, she was told of challenges being faced by indigenous companies as well as measures being proposed to solve them.

A locally-owned firm — Bestafoam (Private) Limited — which is exhibiting at the ZITF, donated 20 bed mattresses to the First Lady for disabled people at Danhiko Project in Msasa, Harare.

"As the patron of Danhiko, I am happy about the efforts by the emerging business units to improve the welfare of the marginalised.

"I hope various indigenous entrepreneurs will also come to realise the need to assist the less privileged people," said Amai Mugabe.

She also visited the A’sambeni Travel and Tourism Exhibition stands.

During her visit at the Tourism expo, Amai Mugabe was shown new services and products in the industry.

She had an opportunity to view latest state-of-the-art designs aimed at marketing Zimbabwe abroad.

The First Lady also toured the Malawian Embassy stand to assess that country’s exhibitions and measures being implemented to increase economic relations with Zimbabwe.

Amai Mugabe said this year’s trade fair provided emerging businesses with an opportunity to increase their markets.
