Life without Mazoka is not easy - Mutinta

LIFE without Anderson Mazoka is not easy, his widow Mutinta said yesterday. Speaking during the memorial mass for her late husband at Cathedral of the Child Jesus, Mutinta said it was difficult to describe Mazoka in a few words. "He was a loving, caring and generous husband," she said. She said the late Mazoka was not only the father of her children, but many people in Zambia.

"He was generous, loved and appreciated by many people," she said. "He had time for everyone. He never got worried about his illness because of his desire to serve the people." Mutinta said when Mazoka died, she was devastated because she thought he was going to recover.

And Dr Kenneth Kaunda said UPND president Hakainde Hichilema stood the chance of ruling Zambia to the people's satisfaction. Dr Kaunda said he was happy the UPND chose Hichilema to replace the late Mazoka. "Young man, I am glad that UPND had elected you.... I am 83 you know. I have known your spirit in the same way I did with late Mazoka. I am happy that you did agree to take over from that great young man (Mazoka)," he said. "I have no doubt that HH you will do it...you will follow his (Mazoka) footsteps. I am not saying so to please anybody, but to tell the world about our situation at the moment."

He urged the late Mazoka's children to respect and follow their mother's leadership. "Young Mazokas, your mother has given you a challenge, not behind doors but in front of all of us. If you do not behave, we will meet you," Dr Kaunda said.

He described the late Mazoka as a great Tonga, Zambian, African and internationalists. "He loved not only the Tongas, Zambians, African, but everybody," he said.

And Hichilema described Mazoka as a complicated man because of his intellectual capacities. "The late Mazoka became UPND president because he had extraordinary talent," he said. The ceremony was attended by among others finance minister Ng'andu Magande, chieftainess Nkomeshya and Patriotic Front spokesperson Given Lubinda.
