NORTH Western Province deputy Permanent Secretary Nkolola Hazemba has urged the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to purchase maize from primary cooperatives and farmers who are the targeted groups. Opening the warehouse managers and agriculture staff management training workshop organised by FRA in Solwezi at Floriana Lodge, Hazemba urged FRA not to buy maize from briefcase traders.
“Ensure that you buy from the farmers, these are the people who should benefit from their sweat and give them the opportunity to build their financial base,”Hazemba said.
He told warehouse mangers to be on the look out for briefcase traders who formed fake cooperatives that were usually not registered. “Let me stress here to all participants that grain management has four golden rules; to keep the grain dry, clean, cool and secure. These rules if followed will sustain quality and quantity of the produce and minimise storage losses,” he said.
Hazemba challenged warehouse managers to coordinate their activities and help farmers sell their produce to FRA.
