PATRIOTIC Front (PF) vice-president Dr Guy Scott yesterday called on President Levy Mwanawasa to fire Luapula Province minister Chrispin Musosha for bringing his position as a minister into disrepute. And PF spokesperson Given Lubinda described Musosha’s behaviour as barbaric. Commenting on Musosha’s beating up of PF cadres who booed him in Chingola on Friday, Dr Scott said Mushosha’s behaviour was not befitting a minister.

“It shows the poor quality of leaders in the MMD. Someone who is a minister, if he can’t control his temper then he is not fit to do that job. He is supposed to be a man of sensibility but he is losing his temper because he is provoked by a kid,” Dr Scott said. “He is not leadership material. A minister should be able to control himself, he is not supposed to behave like a cadre. He should be removed from his job.”
And Lubinda said there was no room for politics of the vintage ages in a democratic country such as Zambia.

“When you see people being barbaric like that, there is something they are protecting. It’s not just a seat, it is much more,” Lubinda said. “If a person is willing to kill just for an election, it means there is more to it than meets the eye.”

Lubinda said in most cases, it were cadres who became riotous when they realised they were unable to account for the large amounts of money they would have been given for campaigns.

“If a person loses an election and didn’t use a lot of money, they don’t complain and fight; they just accept,” he said. “When they fight, it means they are worried that they can’t justify the large amount of money. I also want to commend you The Post for bring these things to the public’s attention.”

Lubinda said Musosha’s behaviour was indicative of the kind of leaders in the MMD.

“We are being ruled by people whose only means for dialogue is using fists. We are being governed by people who can’t reason without resorting to fists and calling other people dogs,” he said. “I urge people of the MMD to accept the choice the people of Nchanga. This victory is not only a victory for the people of Nchanga and PF. This is a victory for democracy, for the people of Zambia. The people of Zambia are showing that they will not tolerate prostitution by a political party that is luring people to join them using money.”
