MINISTRY of Agriculture permanent secretary for marketing and co-operatives Dr Sam Mundia has confirmed that Nyiombo Investment and Omnia have resumed fertiliser distributions under the Fertiliser Support Programme (FSP). In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Mundia said the ministry on Friday held a meeting at which the two fertiliser distributing companies resolved to resume the distribution exercise. He however declined to give details of the meeting.

“Our firm position is yesterday (Friday) we held a meeting at which both Nyiombo Investment and Omnia agreed to open their shedes in most provinces for the first allocation of fertiliser. That is all I can comment,” Dr Mundia said.

Last week, Omnia and Nyiombo suspended fertiliser distribution under the FSP because the government allegedly owed the two companies K30 billion.

The government was committed to clearing the debt and that the firms should allow the small-scale farmers to access the commodity under the FSP.
