THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) officer and a freelance customs clearing agent at Chirundu boarder post for corruption involving K300, 000. ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono yesterday said that Hedges Tembo, 31, an examining officer with the ZRA was arrested and charged with one count of corrupt practices by public officer.
“Whilst Sampa Kanasha, 31, of Chirundu Site and Service, was arrested and charged for one count of corrupt transactions by a public body,” he said.
The duo has been released on bond and will appear in the Siavonga magistrate’s court on 31st March 2008 for mention. And the ACC has arrested Titus Banda of Roads Compound near Lusaka International Airport for allegedly bribing three police officers with K200, 000.
Moono explained that Banda was arrested because he had attempted to corrupt an officer as an inducement or reward to release him after he was apprehended for theft of diesel. Titus is expected to appear in the Lusaka magistrate’s court on 17th March 2008 for mention.
