PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Michael Sata has directed party youths to defy the ban by government from attending this year's Youth Day celebrations at the Freedom Statue in Lusaka. In a letter dated March 7, 2008, Sata stated that PF would ignore the "illegal" directive by the government. He stated that the march past was national and not an MMD affair.
"We have been participating in the Match past before the Hon. Minister of Youth, his deputy and Hampango were born. Please get ready to participate with or without rehearsals," stated Sata.
Sata stated that after serious consultations with members of the central committee and provincial leaders, the party resolved to take part in the Womens Day, Labour Day and Youth Day celebrations.
According to a letter written by the director of youth at the Ministry of Sport Youth and Child Development Meselina Hampango dated February 25, the PF youths had been disqualified from participating in this year's celebrations because they failed to attend the first and second rehearsals held on February 16 and 23 respectively.
