(TIMES) ‘Locals restricted entry of market’

‘Locals restricted entry of market’
By Business Reporter

LOCAL manufacturers are still facing difficulties to access the market for their goods especially in some foreign owned outlets, Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) president, Dev Babbar, has said. Mr Babbar said ZAM was compiling a report on the matter to be presented to the ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry for consideration.

“We are not going to sit back and watch the situation getting worse because we are deeply concerned about the situation which is affecting market access for local products, We aware of the restrictions in some outlets which do not accept locally produced goods,” said Mr Babbar.

ZAM would hold a stake holder’s meeting soon in Lusaka and the Copperbelt where manufacturers will submit their recommendations on the matter.

Mr Babbar said it was high time that ZAM acted on the issue and seek a solution to the problem.

And Zambia Consumer Association executive secretary, Muyunda Ililonga, has called on the Government to act promptly and curb the inflow of imported sub standard goods on the Zambian market.

Mr Ililonga said measures should be taken to ensure that sub standard products which are disadvantaging locally produced goods did not easily find their way on the Zambian market.
