SCIENCE and technology minister Peter Daka has described as sad the technological institutions in the country that are operating with obsolete equipment. Speaking at the opening of the national training course in instrumentation and the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) yesterday, Daka observed that many institutions were operating using obsolete equipment.

Daka also said the neglect of scientific equipment in many industries was a source of concern. And Coal Briquette and Clay Stove pilot plant has announced that it will take its K5.2 billion energy conserving project on the commercial market by June this year.
In an interview after the tour of the plant, Coal Briquette business consultant Godfrey Mufaya said the company was currently doing market research which had reached an advanced stage.

Mufaya said that Coal Briquette manufacture braziers that use coal charcoal made out of coal waste form Maamba Collieries which had the capacity to last for three hours and was environmental friendly.

And Star Energy chief executive officer Nasri Safieddine called for a vigorous fight against deforestation by encouraging the use of extensive alternative energy sources.
Safieddine said Zambia’s forests would be threatened if the current deforestation continued.
