PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Michael Sata yesterday disclosed that he has quit smoking on doctors' recommendation following his heart attack recently. In a telephone interview from South Africa, Sata said doctors had advised him to stop smoking and he obliged. “Since I came here I haven’t smoked,” Sata said. Sata said since he has stopped smoking, The Post should also stop publishing the pictures depicting him smoking a big cigarette.

“Ama pictures yafwaka yayeku Museum. Stop using those pictures, take them to the museum,” he said.

And Sata said he would return home in a few days’ time.
“I will be with all Zambians back home very soon. In a matter of days, I will be with the people of Zambia. I am very grateful for all your prayers; you are my life-supporting machines. I am very encouraged,” said Sata.

“I am grateful to all of them, I am grateful for all your concerns.
I am grateful to everybody from the grassroots to the President of the Republic of Zambia and I will be with you soon.”

The government evacuated Sata to South Africa almost a fortnight ago for specialist medical treatment after he suffered a heart attack.

According to health authorities, heart disease and strokes are more common among smokers than non-smokers. It is estimated that one in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit.
