(HERALD) Forum to seek economic solutions on cards

Forum to seek economic solutions on cards
By Perry Kaande

THE American Business Association of Zimbabwe will hold an economic forum in Harare next month to discuss and explore solutions to the current economic challenges in the country. The "Just Business" forum, under the theme — "Zimbabwe After Tomor-row" is expected to put the Zimba-bwean economic landscape under scrutiny and present possible solutions to the current challenges says Mr Muchadeyi Masunda, the chairman and facilitator of the forum.

"It will also look at how such solutions will affect the business and economic environment in Zimbabwe and how business itself can make an active contribution to economic recovery," he said at a media briefing.

The forum will address four key areas: Multinational financial institutions and their role in the economic recovery of Zimbabwe, hyperinflation, investment and empowerment and the future of the mining sector in Zimba-bwe.

With the global food crisis looming, Mr Masunda made assurances that the forum would also try to factor in discussions on the topic, "especially with the view that Zimbabwe is an agro-based economy".

Mr Masunda was optimistic that "the current situation will come to an end", adding that a long-term outlook is important although in the interim short term solutions could play their part.

The American Business Association is the collective voice of US business and investment in Zimbabwe serving as both a forum and representative body for US business and Zim-American business interests.

Members are representatives of American corporations and Zimba-bwean businesses with trade links to the US.

Key speakers at this year’s forum include Brazilian economist Professor Caio Megale, John Bradley an economic consultant and researcher from Ireland and Dr John Panzer, sector manager, Poverty Alleviation and Economic Management, Africa at the World Bank in Washington. Government representatives for various sectors and local business leaders will attend.
