Zambias Commerce minister Felix Mutati has said the 2008 Global Southern Africa International Smart Partnership conference must ensure that humanity is taken to the next level through dialogue and sharing of experiences. And Smart Partnership Joint Dialogue Convener John Musukuma has said delegates had made progress during the theme to discuss how national visions and traditions could be used as basis for transforming communities.

During the ongoing Smart Partnership conference, Mutati said the national visions were global in context hence the need to share experiences and ideas. He said the Zambian traditional spirit of dialogue would be replicated during interactions on the international conference whose theme is 'Smart Partnership in Economic Development and Diversity.'

"The journey to dialogue at any level is similar to our Zambian traditions and it is this traditional spirit that we want to replicate during this conference because coming together will allow us to move forward in the midst of challenges," said Mutati said. "And since national visions are global in context we need to share experiences and ideas and at the end of this conference we should not just be 'smarter' but we must ensure that humanity is taken to the next level of prosperity and improved living standards."

And Musukuma said several convergences and common grounds were achieved during the dialogue conferences and many delegates appreciated the way Botswana was implementing their national vision.

"Common ground was there and many delegates showed appreciation towards the method being used in Botswana where the government goes back to the people every year to update them on how the national vision was being implemented," said Musukuma. "However, some differences arose because some countries have already implemented their visions while others are still working on theirs but I can't say much since dialogue continues."
