CHINA has indicated that the criticism by the U.S. and Britain over its decision to veto a sanctions vote against Zimbabwe was unwarranted and countries should agree to disagree. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday that political dialogue and negotiation were "the only correct path" to solve the Zimbabwe crisis and no amount of interference would bring peace to the Southern African country. Liu Jianchao said these remarks at a press conference after being quizzed on the United States' dissatisfaction on China's veto.

"China and the United States hold a different stance on this issue. I believe that the U.S. side is very clear on China's attitude," said Jianchao. He added, "it is natural that China and the United States have different opinions on different international issues."

China and Russia vetoed a U.S. and British-drafted resolution in the UN Security Council on July 11 that sought to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe.
