ARGENTINE Ambassador to Zambia Carlos Sersale di Cerisano has urged the government to invest more money in the agriculture sector in order to improve the lives of ordinary people. In an interview, Ambassador Sersale di Cerisano who is based in South Africa said Zambia and Argentina face similar challenges, as they were both developing countries.
"The case of Argentina is an agricultural-based economy and it is highly developing on natural resources and the agriculture sector. Zambia can use that to develop the lives of the people if they develop the agriculture sector because this will affect 80 per cent people who live in rural areas," he said.
He said Argentina could help Zambia in training and transfer of technology in the agriculture sector.
Ambassador Sersale di Cerisano said Zambia had more capacity in the agriculture sector mostly based on small-scale farmers and incorporating technologies and training could increase food production.
He said this would help solve some of the structural problems in terms of developing the economy.
Ambassador Sersale di Cerisano said Argentina was a country that had global economic interests.
Ambassador Sersale di Cerisano said there had been no institutional links in terms of economic collaborations between the two countries and that a mission of experts in agriculture from Argentina would be in the country in November to identify the concrete programmes in agriculture and livestock.
