Jamaican artiste records with local artistesBy KELVIN KACHINGWE
JAMAICAN musician Brian “Bri-Yah-Naan” Thompson, who has been in the country for over a month, has completed recording an album featuring a number of Zambian artistes who include the Mwale Sisters and Leo Muntu.
Brian, who has worked with the likes of Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks, Buju Bunton and Sean Paul and Chaka Demus, was invited to Zambia by Pasina Mazoka, Kalenga Mubanga, Tiinta Chona and Mutinta Musokotwane to help them raise money for charity.
Paxina and Kalenga told Times Entertainment that Brian was to work with a number of local artistes such as CQ, Cactus Agony, Leo Muntu, Runnel, the Mwale Sisters, Mainza, Lily T, K’Millian and Tasila Mwale in trying to raise the money for Nyumba Yanga Home’s of Joy. The orphanage, currently with five homes and 50 girls aged between five and 16, is trying to construct two new homes.
Bri-Yah-Naan was to record an album with all the local artistes involved in the project after which there will be a concert, which was expected to be held last night at the Smugglers Inn in Lusaka.
All the proceeds from the sales of the album and the concert will be donated to charity while all the people involved in the project are doing it exclusively for charity.
Mainza, Runnel, Tiinta, Inferno, Ian Nyirenda and “Sir” Jones Kabanga offered free time in their respective studios for the recording of the album. On the album, the Jamaican artiste, who was with Shaggy on the Boombastic Tour, Midnight Tour and Hot Shot, was expected to sing a song with each of the artistes before they finally doing a collective effort.
Brian had said the project was perfect for him, as he has always wanted to do something for charity. Other than that, he says, it is a good opportunity to work and impart a few skills in the local Zambian artistes.
