VICE-President Rupiah Banda urged Chiengi residents to vote for him claiming he is the only one carrying late president Levy Mwanawasa's vision. And Vice-President Banda has charged that the UPND could not form a government that would be composed of Zambians from all provinces. Addressing a campaign rally in Chiengi last Friday, Vice-President Banda said he was the right candidate for the October 30 elections.

“People of Chiengi, you have no option but to vote for me. I am the only one carrying president Mwanawasa's vision," he said.

He promised to develop the mining, agriculture and the road network in Chiengi.

Vice-President Banda said once he formed government, he would construct new schools and hospitals in the district.

Before addressing the rally, Vice-President Banda held talks with chief Puta at his palace where the traditional leader presented some problems his chiefdom was facing.

In an interview after the meeting, chief Puta said he told Vice-President Banda that the area lacked better schools, clinics and the road network.

Addressing another rally at Nchelenge High School grounds, Vice-President Banda said UPND was only known in one region of the country, making it impossible for the party to form an all-inclusive government.

“No one can form government, who only points where he comes from. UPND has only 22 MPs. Even if you like this so much, they cannot form a government composed of Zambians from all the provinces,” he said.

Vice-President Banda added that even Patriotic Front (PF) was far away from forming government as it did not have enough members of parliament.

He urged the people of Nchelenge not to be cheated by some politicians who he said had no agenda for Zambia.

After Vice-President Banda addressed the rally, some Nchelenge residents passed comments saying they would vote for Sata.

“Nipa bwato fye, tapali apa. It is just on the boat, there is nothing here,” commented Matthews Chisenge.

And addressing another rally in Mansa on Saturday, Vice-President Banda said Zambians would risk voting for either Sata or Hichilema.
Vice-President said if people voted for PF or UPND, the country would go for a general elections saying the two parties had minority numbers in parliament.
