UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has said the continued threats by the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) are nonsensical and useless.

And Hichilema has said the financial and production problems at Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) that are currently being experienced will be a thing of the past if UPND is elected into power in tomorrow's presidential election.

In an interview in Namwala, Hichilema said the continued threats by the MMD to sort out people who would not recognise the election results, in an event that they were rigged, were a total disorder of Vice-President Rupiah Banda's government.

He said the recent remarks by home affairs minister Lieutenant General Ronny Shikapwasha that government would ruthlessly deal with people who were issuing violent statements were nonsensical, useless and misplaced against the demands of the people of Zambia.

"Who is Shikapwasha threatening and why is he issuing those threats? We are not at war. Why is Rupiah and Shikapwasha so scared of the demands of the people of Zambia to have free and fair election? Is it a crime to demand for our birth rights?" he asked.

Hichilema said it was not fair for Vice-President Banda and the MMD to issue threats against people who were demanding their rights to have a free and fair election, people who were pointing out the evils surrounding the electoral process.

However, he said he was not moved by such threats especially that MMD was best known for intimidating people with divergent views.

"We have been threatened before, so why should we be moved today over this noble cause? No, we shall not allow lawlessness from Rupiah and his MMD to prevail on Zambians," he said.

And Hichilema said the UPND, if elected into office, would restructure and fund the institution to enable it to produce the most needed fertiliser in the nation.

Earlier during a mammoth rally held in Namwala on Monday, Hichilema promised to connect Itezhi-tezhi to Namwala and the rest of the country through the construction of a bridge across the Namwala River and the rehabilitation of the road network.
