(UNUSUAL SOURCES) What is going on in the Congo?

Laurent Nkunda is just another stooge for western mineral interests, like Morgan Tsvangirai. And Paul Kagame.

MrK,

I am certainly not going to defend individuals like Paul Kagame and Laurent Nkunda, but these Canadians seem extremely out of touch here. All this discussion about Rwanda and Zaire/DRC in the 90's without a single mention of genocides in both countries and Burundi. These guys seem completely ignorant of how France reacted to hundreds of thousands of murders and the flight of Interhamwe militias into Zaire/DRC territory where they continue to dominate civilian refugee populations. This is completely and utterly one sided and misinformed. No mention of LRA either, and joint military efforts by Uganda, DRC and CAR against them. The Tutsis are certainly a smaller minority now then they used to be. No mention of the Mai Mai militia, or the Wali Kale airlift of an estimated US$2M/day in tin ores from DRC controlled territory, destined for world markets.

Nobody's hands are clean in Kivu, or really any other part of the DRC after so much bloodshed. I wonder what the Canadians would have thought about tens of thousands of Nazis fleeing into Denmark amidst hundreds of thousands of civilian refugees at the end of WWII, and being told that the soldiers would be free to keep their weapons and to purge any suspected jews/gypsies/homosexuals/communists/dissidents/collaborators amongst the refugees that they saw fit, and that the Canadian soldiers really should be examined closely, because after all, they had invaded Germany from France and Holland, and now they had to leave it to Denmark and stop all this talk about trials in Nuremburg and War Crimes.

Certainly not exact parallels, but to talk about the current situation without referencing the impact of genocide on the region is foolish. These two sound more concerned about which colonial language is dominant than with who is killing who or why.
