Zimbabwe's ruling party, ZANU-PF, which is considered to be an epitome of terror and destruction in the Southern African country has pledged its support and solidarity to Malawi‘s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and President Bingu wa Mutharika.

ZANU-PF National Chairperson, John Nkomo in his address to the first ever DPP convention in Blantyre, said Mutharika - a Mugabe ally - has stood firm for Zimbabwe at a time when the country has fallen out with so many leaders in Africa and beyond.

“As all of you are quite aware, in Zimbabwe, we have gone through very bad experiences. We have been victimized in so many ways. While a larger part of the world has chosen to stay away from us, Your Excellency, President Mutharika has remained in solidarity with Comrade Robert Mugabe,” said Mkomo.

“As a demonstration of reciprocity, we would like to pledge our solidarity and support to you and your party,” said Nkomo, without elaborating the support his party would provide.

The veteran politician said Mugabe’s party shared similar ideologies with Mutharika's DPP; therefore he said it was imperative for Zimbabwe to work closely with him to remain in power after the next elections.

Zimbabwe's ZANU-PF and Robert Mugabe in power since 1980 has been largely responsible for the destruction in the once Southern Africa's breadbasket, sending millions of the country's professionals fleeing the nation to seek survival in neighboring countries and beyond.

Analysts say the trend is also creeping into Malawi under Mutharika rule.

President Mutharika has always thrown his weight behind Mugabe and he even send 400, 000 metric tonnes of maize to bate food shortage in the country.

Government insiders said the maize has not been paid for by forex strapped Zimbabwe.
