PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe has sent a written brief on the security situation in Zimbabwe to the Great (Libyan) Jamahiriya leader, Colonel Muammar Qaddafi. The message was delivered by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi.
The Libyan secretary of African Union affairs at that country’s foreign ministry Dr Ali Treki met with Mumbengegwi in the Libyan capital, Tripoli on Sunday.
During the meeting minister Mumbengegwi presented the latest developments on the formation of the all-inclusive Government and the security situation in Zimbabwe.
A statement issued by the Jamahiriyan office said Colonel Qaddafi was briefed on the “conspiracies to interfere in its internal affairs” of Zimbabwe.
The meeting also discussed the situation in Palestine and what Libya called “the Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip”.
The ministers also discussed the ongoing preparations for the next regular session of the Conference of the African Union later this month in Addis Ababa in particular the establishment of the African federal government.
The Libyan leader has been pressing for a supra-government for the African continent - the United States of Africa.
"For 40 years all the summits have failed," said Colonel Qaddafi back in 2007. "Our micro-states have no future."
The idea of a single pan-African government was first promoted by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who led Ghana to independence in 1957.
Libya and Zimbabwe maintain very strong diplomatic relations dating back to the days of the liberation struggle. The Jamahiriyan Government supports an all inclusive Government for Zimbabwe which it says is a good development.
The Libyan ambassador to Zimbabwe, Amara el-Batel last year said Zimbabwe should build on the sept 15 Global Political Agreement and move towards rebuilding the economy.
