Time to focus on rebuilding Zimbabwe

DEAR EDITOR – LET me commend Zimbabwe’s political rivals for the maturity and determination shown to improve the lives of people in the last few days. The road has been rocky, but the end could be sweet if the rivals put aside their differences.

Many Zimbabweans I have spoken to in the last day or so, are already exuding confidence saying they are ready to work together with other Zimbabweans to rebuild the country.

Politicians should now focus on the grand task ahead and work hard so that they can restore confidence of all Zimbabweans; at home and abroad. They should now make a promise that they will keep aside their political differences so that they can deliver services to the people.

Time has come for us to start thinking as one nation because we shall be judged harshly and divided by outsiders if we fail in our duties, as ordinary citizens and as leaders. So we should stop abusing one another and instead use civil language while addressing one another so that we can all move forward. This is an essential first step.

It is time for us to bond and discuss freely with one another the best possible ways to develop our country. Let us not worry anymore about the colour of our skin, but the contribution we can bring to this great nation. The development of a country requires a concerted effort and each citizen should play their role.

If we remain divided, those who seek our destruction will have an easy task.
