PETAUKE district council chairperson Osman Moosa has been suspended for six months for failing to adhere to local government minister Ben Tetamashimba's directive to reopen council offices that he closed due to the alleged misappropriation of funds.
Both Moosa and district council secretary Boyd Mboyi confirmed the suspension in separate interviews.

Moosa said it was true that he was suspended on Saturday but would not give more details on the matter.

When asked about the outcome of the full council meeting on Saturday, Moosa said; "the meeting was good and bad for me but I cannot tell you everything on phone."

But Mboyi said Moosa was suspended during a full council meeting on Saturday for misconduct and failing to adhere to the minister’s directive.

About two weeks ago, Moosa closed four key offices which contained financial records so that they could be inspected for alleged financial misappropriation by officers from the provincial local government office.

And last week, Tetamashimba directed Moosa to open council offices for smooth operation.

"Yes it's true I have written him (council chairman) directing him to open the offices, you know they will be having a council meeting where they would make a resolution; one man can not make a resolution for the council. You know I was not consulted even the ministers who come from there were not consulted, so it's not good for one man to make a bambazonke decision," said Tetamashimba.
